A World Humanitarian Day event in Dublin brought together local organisations and volunteers working in areas ranging from homelessness and disability to humanitarian assistance.

The event took place at the Church of Scientology & Community Centre of Dublin. Presentations throughout the day showed how community assistance can range from direct news eu support for people facing hardship to programmes promoting independence and inclusion.

Cllr. Francis Timmons, Mayor of South Dublin, discussed the work of Clondalkin Helping Homeless and its support for people experiencing homelessness and hardship.

Viktor Kozyrev, co-founder of VOLA Enable, explained how VOLA Enable works to reduce barriers faced by people with disabilities and encourage fuller participation in community life.

Silvia Fani introduced participants to the activities of Scientology Volunteer Ministers, including community projects and responses to emergencies.

Scientology founder L. Ron Hubbard established the Volunteer Ministers programme in the 1970s, developing an approach based on practical action and personal assistance. Its motto is “Something Can Be Done About It.”

Participants concluded part of the programme with a practical workshop demonstrating methods associated with Volunteer Minister training.

Taken together, the presentations illustrated how humanitarian work can be carried out by organisations with very different areas of expertise.
